The Feathery Tribe is both a biography of Robert Ridgway, the Smithsonian Institute’s first curator of birds, and a study of the historical and intellectual events which gave birth and form to ornithology. The team explored Nevada and Utah, with Ridgway collecting thousands of bird specimen, plus nests and eggs for the Smithsonian.
