Its success is due in part to its adaptability and opportionism it is primarily a hunter but may also scavenge, with the capacity to eat and digest skin, bone and other animal waste.

During our tenure there, we had exceptional views of Africa’s largest ( Verreaux’s Eagle-Owl ) and smallest ( African Scops Owl ) owls, the largest bird on the planet, not neglecting numerous hornbills, sunbirds and weavers. Along the track, the shimmering scarlet gorget of a Hunter’s Sunbird shone like a beacon.

But you won’t find Ostrich or another ratite in first place on Jetz et al.’s I wrote about the Hoatzin here a couple of years ago when Gerald Mayr published a paper hypothesizing that Hoatzins invaded South America from Africa by raft.
