This is the reason I’m birding in Tanzania with no field guide. As it turned out Nikomo had been all but abandoned when he was five, and was so constantly hungry that everything became a potential food source. Plus I’m more of a bird rehabilitator than a birder, which is where the mongooses come in. But that was seven years ago.
