Not long after the move my friend and I were walking our dogs, early in the morning, when the dogs discovered something tiny lying in the middle of the sidewalk. Just to make sure, however, I shooed the dogs away and checked it out. The chickadee that I discovered on the sidewalk was suffering from dehydration and hypothermia.

On Compassionate Carnivores and Betrayal

It's impersonal and hideously ugly and the animals suffer greatly. I wouldn't do it to a dog, and I shouldn't do it to a chicken/sheep/cow/pig. It's just not right. A violation of trust or confidence, an abandonment of something committed to one's charge. It's cruel. There's no "compassion" in the process.
