On the mainland they face predation from domestic cats, dogs, genets, mongoose and Cape Gulls which steal their chicks and eggs. Sharks, Cape Fur Seals and even Killer Whales will prey on them in the ocean. In 2009 the population was recorded as 20,699 pairs. This represents a 61% decline In the last 28 years alone.
