Do whales deserve constitutional protection against slavery? PETA went on to request that the whales be freed and released to a habitat better suited to their needs. The early threats of guano harvesting and egg collecting have been replaced by the more ominous threats of oil pollution and overfishing of their favorite food source – pilchards. The only other significant mainland breeding colony is based about an hour out of Cape Town on the east coast at a place called Betty’s Bay.
