If some microorganisms must be killed in the process, this is unfortunate but necessary for human life. KBJ: Nobody in the animal-rights or animal-liberation movement views intelligence as a morally significant property, at least intrinsically. Killing a hog can be avoided. But the question remains. KBJ: Ditto.
