By Greek law enforcement officers, I had already been taken for a spy. Over a few obstacles, we follow the dirt track into an abandoned and overgrown claypit. Although quite a few species will have a second brood ( European Starlings among them), in the lowlands, mid-June is the end of the breeding season for many small passerines.

Walk to a small abandoned farm and keep on along the track, crossing a small canal via a small bridge (don’t worry about the gate) just after the farm. This is prohibited under German nature conservation laws and a moral no-go. I’ve once seen Grey Partridges there, and the meadows have breeding Montague’s Harriers.
