Remarkably, this growing colony suffered severe losses from a leopard that habitually came down from the mountains to feast on the easy penguin snacks. Sharks, Cape Fur Seals and even Killer Whales will prey on them in the ocean. In 2009 the population was recorded as 20,699 pairs.
