Veterinary students with Arizona ties can apply for scholarships

The American Veterinary Medical Foundation continues to accept applications for several scholarships meant to attract new veterinarians to Arizona.

Five $1,000 AVMF/Arizona VMA (AzVMA) Scholarships are available to second- and third-year veterinary students who attend an AVMA Council on Education–accredited (AVMA COE) veterinary college in North America and have a connection to the state of Arizona. Applicants will be a student member of the AzVMA and have been born, lived, employed, or educated in Arizona, among other requirements.

The veterinary profession has countless options for traditional and nontraditional careers. The American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) offers a handful of scholarships for veterinary students who are from or associated with Arizona.

The Michael and Gail Ames Scholarship is offering $1,000 to a second- or third-year student attending an AVMA COE-accredited veterinary college in Arizona. Preferred applicants will have an interest in rural practice in the state.

In addition, the Panzero Family Scholarship will award $1,000 to a second- or third-year student attending an AVMA COE-accredited veterinary college in Arizona who plans to practice in Arizona upon graduation.

And finally, the Julie and Wayne Anderson Scholarship also is giving $1,000 to a second- or third-year student attending any AVMA COE-accredited veterinary college in North America and will demonstrate a commitment to practice in Arizona.

The deadline to apply for all these scholarships is March 31 and the application forms are available on the AVMF website. Applications will be reviewed until May 10; award notification and check disbursement will take place during the late spring semester.
