I guess most of us fail to consider that we as humans used to ugh and grunt too, and we as babies could only cry so many different ways: why do we seem to fail to apply this logic to animals? It seems like the idea that animals are, in a sense, trying to talk [to you] is not a common thought. universally mind blowing?

There were other birds, of course – Brown-throated Parakeets that flew past low and quickly threw us for a heart-pounding loop. Typically, there would be at least one male already at the lek, even as human observers would be getting in position. Nevertheless, it was still a magical experience sitting in the jungle.

Some weeks ago, I elaborated on some of my experiences on the eastern and southeastern ends. A Cocoi Heron flew over, presumably looking for a place to mount the classic sit-and-wait but instead found human observers. Birds are of course, plentiful here. Nearer to the road, a Spotted Tody-flycatcher was busy building a nest.

They are sometimes chased by superstitious resident humans, believing them to be harbingers of doom or even the souls of the departed. It is one of the more commonly seen owls, based on it having a relatively high tolerance for human activity as well as its partially diurnal habits. He took a few pictures and moved on.

Similar to the rare human experiment, the results were generally acceptable, though of course that does not account for any potential psychological damage caused by the switch in parents.
