Crows, Contest Killing, and Communication

10,000 Birds

After scrolling through piles of furious emails regarding a recent blog about Rip Van Winkle’s Crow Killing Contest , it seemed to me that all of us needed Dr. Phil. The subject was not hunting; it was contest killing. You can see the comments from both sides by scrolling down after the blog’s conclusion.

Best Bird of the Weekend (Third of June 2015)

10,000 Birds

I took my family on Sunday to explore a stretch of the flat but fancy Lehigh Valley Railroad Trail. Accessibility Matters

So armed with some knowledge from the “ Access Considerations for Birding Locations ” page on the Birdability website and some research, I twice visited the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge near Portland, Oregon with accessibility in mind. Hunting is also prohibited in this area of the refuge.

The Nonessential Whooping Crane

10,000 Birds

With the proposed hunting seasons on sandhill cranes being discussed in Tennessee, Kentucky and Wisconsin, we must not forget the whooping crane, which travels and winters in the big sandhill crane flocks. More states will doubtless join the queue of those proposing hunts. Another thing to consider. Now, it’s time to go to the top.
