Birding Shanghai in May 2023 – Part 2

The HBW has comprehensively nothing on its breeding: “Breeding – No Information” I guess birds are not their main focus. I think the photo shows a male bird, as certain parts of the head seem more black than grey. I was a bit worried about the bird in the video but a friend assured me that birds do not get seasick.

The Blood Pheasant

The Latin species name cruentus , “blood-stained” has the same background Blood Pheasants mainly feed on mosses – not many bird species do this as mosses are not very nutritious. One paper identified the number of flocks in their research area “by tracing their tracks in the snow” Very Cowboys and Indians.

Chinese Penduline T**s are not particularly woke birds. White’s Thrush is described as “burly” on eBird – not entirely unjustified, I guess, but this description fails to capture the way the intricate patterns of the bird make for great camouflage and also for its own kind of beauty. Maybe the grandparents help.
