But this book taught me about eagles, owls, storks and herons. I’ve seen this bird hunting, actively denuding dead branches in pursuit of what lies beneath.

This years bird number 1300, the Whiskered Screech Owl, was found in the dark, in a snow storm, and no photo was gotten. Wandering the Sydney Australia Botanical Gardens, there were a large number of birds that could have made this list, like the Powerful Owl, but this photo of Little Wattlebird is one of my favorites from the area.

Working with the local jaguar conservancy, he learned that there are 10 or 11 different animals hunting peccaries and other prey at Selva Bananito. The Selva Bananito Lodge eBird hotspot has 381 bird species at the time of writing, including such specialties as the Great Curassow , King Vulture , Spectacled Owl and the Sunbittern.

The introduction of exotic animals has extirpated and continues to threaten hundreds of species. Little boys kill thousands of birds each year with slingshots.
