But the Bush Administration reversed that decision five days before it was going to take effect after receiving several hundred letters from drug companies and farm animal trade groups. Here’s another self-interested reason to not eat meat: Drug-resistant bacteria are routinely found in beef, chicken, and pork sold in supermarkets.

Elk Hunting For Idiots
From the Seattle PI: The killing of about seven elk cornered in a farm pasture in eastern Skagit County has spurred state officials to close the elk archery season in the area and angered others who either witnessed or heard about the killings. Even other hunters were disgusted: "How can you call that hunting?" Good Lord.

BOCA to Stop Using Eggs by End of 2009
On March 19, 2009 a company representative emailed Compassion Over Killing: "…I am pleased to let you know the BOCA brand will be eliminating eggs in all of its products by the end of this year. By removing eggs from their ingredient list, BOCA is withdrawing financial support for factory farms that use battery-cages.

Sad About World Farm Animals Day
World Farm Animals Day was today. Tags: depressed farm animal welfare Perhaps it's because of gloomy October or maybe it's because I'm getting over the flu, but I felt very sad. There was a picture on the bus commemorating the event with a picture of a cow looking, dare I say it, noble and long-suffering. How depressing.

Are Farm Animals Usually Killed in a Humane Manner?
In other words, the proverbial happy farm animal. However, the factory farm system we have in any country does not lend itself to either of the two criteria.
