I just adopted Asfar, my little hamster friend. I noticed that while he sleeps, he keeps shaking. Is he alright? submitted by /u/FotizxRaidd [link] [comments]

My hamster was asleep in his burrow and I accidentally knocked one of my metal bed frame posts over as I was packing and it made a decent loud bang on the floor. He shot out of his burrow and was very jumpy for a bit. He loosened up, ran on his wheel, ate some food but won’t go back into his burrow. Is there anything I can do?

As a hamster lover who just adopted a new one today (still unnamed), I find this incident particularly reprehensible. Tags: hamsters UK animal cruelty. Thanks to animalblog.co.uk for the story.

Prior to the 1930s, hamsters were pretty much in the wild. Now, one million hamsters are kept as pets, an increase of 41 percent since 2001. Sadly, though, some 200,000 hamsters were used for research in the United States in 2000, third behind rats and mice. Tags: hamsters. Interesting article.

This is a very cute little hamster gadget. He runs on his wheel, and you can click your mouse to feed him.

Hamsters also need to be housed alone and need around 3ft of space. Again huge TW hamsters in 1 1/2 foot long cages with 70-100 dwarf hamsters cramed in walking on a mat of dead and decaying hamsters and sometimes that's all they have to eat. Each other.
