Birding Tradition: the New Year’s Day List

10,000 Birds

My pre-breakfast list was wildfowl dominated, the 10 species I saw ranging from Black-necked Swans to the endemic Falkland Islands Flightless Steamer Duck. My final total for the day was 39 species – not bad considering my combined list for my two-week Falkland trip was just 55 species. My estimate was over 1500 birds.

What Will My Next Five Queens Birds Be?

10,000 Birds

Having finally found a Black Vulture for my Queens list , an important tick both because it was long overdue and because it was the tenth bird since my last set of predictions, it is time, once again, to look at what might be coming to my Queens list. Alright, that is a list of ten birds. 0 out of 1!). 1 out of 2!).

Heading out on the road

10,000 Birds

A Eurasian Wigeon and a male Wood Duck will make for the first day target list. The latest eBird report has listed a Black Oystercatcher near this area, which would be a great treat to see. As far as my year’s list, this last weekend netted me 6 more species, putting me at 127 species. Now that work problem is out of the way….let’s
