A Barn Owl slept peacefully on the inside of the roof of a well-visited tourist cafe. It warned me not to order the latte though – overpriced and not very good, according to the owl. For some reason, the largest member of the heron family is not called the Great Heron nor the Giant Heron but rather the Goliath Heron.

Luckily, I didn’t have to look hard to find the Dusky Eagle-Owl’s nest. It was a big owl. Soon, it was time to leave the Taj Mahal. Maybe it was the intimidating stare.

On one occasion we saw a pair of Red Turtle Doves beside the fishing lake. There is a massive nest at the top of a tower beside the Sports Centre and a family of Monk Parakeets have taken up residence. This location is great as it is close to Jeanne’s Family, as well as a very short drive to the Billy Frank Jr. In 1974, Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge was established to protect the delta and its diversity of fish and wildlife habitats. They are all recognisable from their families in Africa and are simply referred to by prefixing with “Seychelles” With most species being the only representative of their family, it made identification easy.
