Many people are buying or downloading free bird ID apps, consequently narrowing the market niche and increasing the prices of paper books. Yet, going through the pages of a book is an irreplaceable experience. A bird identified in the field, even from a screen would make my list, but a bird IDd only afterwards would not.

For me anyway, it greatly enriches the experience.

There are countless CDs and downloads and books, but MyYogaOnline is not only convenient (as in, you don't have to leave the house), but it is also very inexpensive to join (and you can view sample videos free of charge), and the videos are beautifully produced. Tumblr seems like it would be an ideal way to have a secondary blog feed a primary blog but Mike’s experiment with the format did not work terribly well in terms of driving traffic to 10,000 Birds. Maybe Tumblr is best used to quickly spread memes but not as a traffic-driver for the typical bird blog?

This meant that the app I had downloaded to my phone, Sasol eBirds of Southern Africa , produced by mydigitalearth.com, was the same as the book I had brought, which was not my intent.The app itself was excellent–easy to use, comprehensive, and relieving me of the burden of carrying a heavy book in my backpack.
