Thanks to that bird’s choice of hunting grounds and David having plenty of time to watch it, he has documented the bird chasing everything from motmots to large woodpeckers as well as occasional visits from the parents.

While these adults were not banded, it is well documented that Bald Eagles are monogamous and return to the same nest each year. Scientific experiments would be needed to demonstrate true cause-and-effect, but the extra attention appeared to pay off. The first surprise was the amount of variation in their parenting from year to year.
