According to Macauley Library’s migration map the overwhelming breeding activity for this species occurs north of the state of California. I think their breeding range may be moving South. And a video of him taking a shower in the rain. Of course the males come first to establish territory.

Many of those species also nest in the park. One of my favorite species is the Water Ouzel , more commonly known now as the American Dipper ( Cinclus mexicanus ).

The yellow lores worked for a Little Egret in breeding plumage but I couldn’t figure out why, it was a Little Egret , it wouldn’t be an all white bird. The northwestern spread of this non-native species made it to my yard a few years ago. The lightest shade of lavender coincides with a 0 – 2% frequency of sightings, the next darker shade 2 – 10%, the next 10 – 25%, the next 25 – 40% and the darkest (almost black) shade is a 40 – 100% occurrence of the species.

The least common species of hummingbird I see here is the Calliope Hummingbird ( Stellula calliope ). She will begin breeding in April. The female is the earliest breeder of all these species, arriving on breeding grounds shortly after the males in November. He also sports a brilliant orange-red gorget.

These large parrots are popular in the pet trade, and that’s a likely source of the population of this species on Trinidad. The subtle white edging to the gape of this bird indicates it is near breeding time. Noisy Yellow-crowned Parrots indicated that it was time to stop the car and get out. Gradually, the bird drifted nearer.

The male of the species has the upper portion of the head, back of neck, back and wings all glossy black. The male is the only Black-necked Stilt in the second segment of this video, along with several Greater White-fronted Geese, and the third bird that comes into view in the final segment that is larger than the other two birds.

First of all, the species only occurs semi regularly in North America in a small patch of Alaska where it occasionally breeds. Most of its range is actually in the Old World so if you want to see one in North America you have to arrange a trip to western Alaska in breeding season, not exactly an easy proposition logistically.
