It has come time to put together another blog entry and I find myself bed ridden with a bad back so I will share a brief description of some of my local birds. Bowerbirds are a unique family of birds found only in Australia and New Guinea. The males are more decorative and colourful than the females.

Birding the Kruger Park (2): Bateleur area

The one bird I did not see here, however, was the Bateleur Eagle … One highlight in the area is the Saddle-billed Stork , likely to be the tallest species in the stork family. Another member of the stork family, the African Openbill , looks like it is could benefit from a good orthodontist. And sadly, it is listed as Endangered.

Best Bird of the Weekend (Last of July 2019)

Better, though, is finding a way to raise the quality of your bird sightings and enjoyment of them. Though Corey arrived in Southern California late Friday night, he didn’t get much birding in this weekend other than dipping on a Nazca Booby at Dana Point after delaying his departure to go look for it to accompany his family to the beach.

Quarantine Twitch for the Best Backyard Bird

The message she relayed made me blurt out a string of words that cannot be repeated on this blog – let’s just say that my priorities immediately shifted. The only harassment came from the resident Red-tailed Squirrel family – which seemed to be more curiosity than anything else, as their nest was just about two feet away.

Bird Renaming Week Wrap Up

Tom, really raising the discourse of the blog, decided that we need to rename boobies. Carrie came up with a genius way to both rename pretty much everything and raise money for conservation. Joshua, another guest writer, gave us a dialogue about a particularly poorly-named woodpecker. And then the week ended! Well, no more!
