Birds of Japan by Otani Chikara

10,000 Birds

It’s the festive season and I am holding the new Lynx Edicions’s Birds of Japan, thinking what a perfect gift to any international birder this book represents. Birds of Japan is a lavishly illustrated field guide with maps neatly packed among the paintings, and QR codes packed into text. What I like about the book?

Japanese Night Heron in Shanghai

10,000 Birds

Birding in Nanhui, Shanghai in October 2019

10,000 Birds

So, this post just shows 25 birds I spotted at Nanhui (coastal Shanghai) in October 2019. A typhoon in Japan blew a few Brown-eared Bulbuls in – they are common in Japan but quite rare here. One of the birds seemed somewhat incompetent in handling the seeds of the local trees. After a few days, they left again.
