What’s Up with the ABA?  Part III (Finances)

10,000 Birds

I have recently written about the American Birding Association, as it is currently searching for a new president. The revenue-expenses divergence resulted in several years of negative net income, from 2008 to 2010. As indicated in a prior post , the ABA is in debt and has routinely run annual operating deficits.

First Phoebe of 2014

10,000 Birds

For me, the 29th is pretty late, though the late date might have more to do with my lack of time birding last weekend rather than phoebes showing up late. 2012 – 15 March. 2008 – 21 March. By the way, the picture at the top of the post is the bird that was my first of the year this year. 2013 – 24 March.

First Phoebe of 2017

10,000 Birds

Over the last ten years my average first phoebe has been the 21st of March, meaning that this bird was a full nine days earlier than average and beat last year’s first phoebe by six days. Early first phoebe of the year is good but the predicted nor’easter might make it tough for early arriving birds to survive. 2012 – 15 March.

10,000 Birds

Few experiences birding get me more excited than adding a new bird to my Queens list. My latest addition, a Parasitic Jaeger off the coast, finally got me to my 289th bird, well over a year since I got my 279th. The first time I did this I accidentally added twelve birds to my list before reviewing it. I must do better!
