I thought it was an urban myth that animal shelters would actually turn over unwanted animals to laboratories for research, but apparently not. The animal shelter committee voted to end the contract, but it goes before the County commissioners in April. In return, the company can use some of the unwanted dogs for animal research.

Scores of abandoned dogs, cats and livestock from Utah animal shelters become subjects of laboratory research at the University of Utah each year. This weekend Lagos Town Hall executives are expected to sign a landmark protocol drawn up in collaboration with animal protection association Cadela Carlota, in which it is decreed that the two organisations will endeavour to put a stop to the extermination of healthy unwanted and stray animals being held in the municipal kennel.

Sounds like it's hell for these animals in Kentucky shelters. Tags: animal shelter management animal shelters Kentucky strays. The State used to provide oversight, but in 2004, they abrogated responsibility to the counties. According to the Animal Legal Defense Fund, things are not going well.

Investigative journalism by the Salt Lake Tribune, following-up on allegations levelled by PETA against the University of Utah's Comparative Medicine Center and the Cardiovascular Research & Training Institute laboratories revealed the two laboratories had used 190 dogs and cats in 2009, all obtained from shelters.

I doubt caring for strays in Belarus is an easy task , so kudos to these people for the work they do. City Fauna and another animal welfare charity named Ehida brought around 40 pets from their shelters to the park on Sunday in an attempt to re-home them. Tags: belarus animal rights. Byalyanava said.
