An Amazing Boat Ride from Santa Cruz Island to Ventura Harbor

It took me awhile, but I managed to get on quite a few, especially when the boat slowed down to go check out some Humpback Whales and a huge number of Common Dolphins. Sooty Shearwaters and a Western Gull fly back the aftermath of a Humpback Whale breaching. Humpback Whale Megaptera novaeangliae. It was amazing.

My First West Coast Pelagic Trip

I’ve been on a whale-watching trip in Orange County , twice gone out to Santa Cruz Island , and even visited Protection Island off the Olympic Peninsula in Washington. Brown Pelicans cared not for my taint. Hordes of Brown Pelicans , Heermann’s Gulls , and Western Gulls made it clear we were on the west coast.

Right next to the world famous Opera House is the the Sydney Botanical Gardens, a good place to see Sulphur-crested Cockatoos , Banded Rails and large roosting groups of Grey-headed Flying-foxes. And it is certainly possible to see others with luck and a trip to the right spot. The city is a very green one.

During the intervening years it has spread right down to the far south of the province as well as inland, with hundreds of breeding pairs now in KwaZulu-Natal province.
