I'm struck by how two friends of mine used to be vegetarians before I met them and then switched to meat because their doctors said they "needed" the meat. Does anyone "need" meat? Or do they just need the protein? I think this is ideological BS on the part of their doctors.

Vegetarians and vegans know that you get protein from vegetables. I have yet to see an episode featuring vegetarian cooking. Vegetarians are far more predominant than people who go to snooty French restaurants. Add cooking schools to the list of animal exploitation promoters, along with medical schools. That's not true.

The author, Daniel Lazare, is hostile to vegetarianism. Then again, progressives think abortion is merely a medical procedure, devoid of moral significance. Here is an essay from The Nation, which bills itself as " a progressive journal." Why is it that so many progressives think it's silly to accord moral status to animals?

The book, which I have not read, that saved Derrick Jensen 's life is called The Vegetarian Myth: Food, Justice, and Sustainability by Lierre Keith, who was a vegan for 20 years, suffered serious medical problems, and started feeling better when she recommenced eating animals. Throughout the book, Keith mocks vegetarians and vegans.

There's no remotely vegan or even vegetarian (though I'm not even sure what the latter would look like) message. .: One message is that there's nothing wrong with eating animals, and in fact it's fantastic and thrilling and a win-win-win (people-planet-profits) when you eat animals that were "produced" by Polyface Farms. That's criminal.

I had to make exactly the same meal for her every day, so I moved to using Natural Balance Vegetarian kibble (note that the canned version is not vegan due to the animal source of Vitamin D3). Because Violet and Charles are chock full of medical issues, they have a handful of specialists.
