Where Are You Birding This Third Weekend of January 2020?

As a month, January is like March for birding, coming in like a lion as everyone tears into a fresh, new year list, but going out like a lamb as we gradually recognize how little bird movement really takes place this time of year. I’ll be working mornings this weekend but hope to hustle up an owl or two if the weather permits.

Where Are You Birding This Final Weekend of February 2015?

So much for going out like a lamb! I’ll dream of an opportunity to encounter a cool owl, falcon, or boreal vagrant along the lake this weekend, but I can’t say for sure I’ll actually look for one. At least this miserable (YMMV) month is coming to an end.

Birding Fallon: Well Worth the Trip

I’ve never been on an “owl prowl” before, and was thrilled that the one we joined turned up the promised quarry, and then some. Great Horned Owl babies peering out from their nest! Barn Owl babies peering out from their box! A Burrowing Owl peering at us from beside his burrow, and then making a hasty escape!

Birdmania at the Cano Negro Bird Count, Costa Rica

“Bird Count at Cano Negro” was too mundane to portray the boat rides, mosquitoes, remote habitats, the surprise lamb chops lunch, and other situations. After the meeting, we passed on looking for potoos and owls (Cano Negro is an excellent area for that) so we could get plenty of sleep in the comfortable Hotel de Campo.
