I found this little grouping of Guillemots, with parents, babies and even an egg. What started as a small group of birds, with the hope they would make it on their own, is now a very strong breeding population. Tomorrow morning we will head on down to England, and the township of Hull, to visit the Spurn Wildlife Reserve.

Since 1984 it has been planted with native bush and pests were controlled, and is now used as a wildlife reserve. The island was first a Maori fortress to be retreated to from the mainland, then a camp for internees during the war and a quarantine station for people and livestock. Oh well, better luck next time!

The west end of the lake has been designated as a Watchable Wildlife Reserve, with some nice walking trails and a couple of very nice hides built overlooking some varied waterways. In the past, seeing some of these Ring-necked Ducks would have been rather scarce, so here is a shot of the small group that were on the larger pond.

The main chapters are habitats, fauna and flora, followed by a separate chapter on whales, dolphins and seabirds, and the Sri Lanka national parks and wildlife reserves. Hence, if you are considering a wildlife watching trip and are looking for info on this park, and then on the nearest reserve, it never works that smoothly.
