Here in central Mexico, the winter season always seems to begin with the arrival of various members of the sandpiper family. I did a bit better with the Phalaropes ; while I only had one encounter, it was with a medium-sized group, and they seemed quite willing to let me take their picture. Let that be a lesson, to me.

We had last experienced this cheerful family of birds in Katherine in the Northern Territory over 13 years ago, so although the population is isolated there they had the same characteristics.
