Where Are You Birding This Final Weekend of February 2015?

So much for going out like a lamb! I’ll dream of an opportunity to encounter a cool owl, falcon, or boreal vagrant along the lake this weekend, but I can’t say for sure I’ll actually look for one. At least this miserable (YMMV) month is coming to an end.

There’s a bear! There’s a bear!

At the same time, a Peregrine Falcon flies across the valley. The cuisine was magnificent, especially lamb. Peregrine Falcon – Falco peregrinus. Up to 100 kg – possibly a female, my guide and a bear researcher from the wildlife charity Callisto, Yannis Tsanakis, tells me. and Apennine peninsulas (30 + 50 ind.).

Birding Fallon: Well Worth the Trip

Speaking of hawks, two talented and extremely knowledgeable falconers, Marie Gaspari Crawford and Chloe Bowen, shared with us their birds and their experiences. Also on hand were an Aplomado Falcon and a Red-tailed Hawk who was so mellow that he allowed Bowen to stroke him on the back, a gesture which we were told raptors ordinarily detest.

Birdmania at the Cano Negro Bird Count, Costa Rica

“Bird Count at Cano Negro” was too mundane to portray the boat rides, mosquitoes, remote habitats, the surprise lamb chops lunch, and other situations. Rain came and went but it cooled things down and also gave us a chance to sit down and enjoy a wonderful, home-cooked meal of rice, beans, and lamb!
