You are paying someone to create a being for your use and enjoyment, and then kill that being.

So here is an even more modest proposal than roasting Fido: Try eating only what animals you are willing to kill with your own hands. However, I agree with Mr. Foer that factory farming has to go. In the name of moral consistency I became a vegetarian four years ago. We carnivores have to become more benevolent.
