Fortunately, just like when we visited Washington State , Daisy was amenable to taking a boat ride to see some puffins so on the evening of Saturday, 27 May, we (me, Daisy, Desi, and my mother-in-law) found ourselves on a boat in New Harbor watching Black Guillemots swim in the harbor while we waited for our boat to head out to Eastern Egg Rock.

This last implies of course an improvement in ethics, as opposed to morality, as I have defined it, unless we already understand 'Do as you would be done by' as applicable to whales, cattle, chickens, and so on, as it is to human beings. Blue-footed Boobies dance, whistle, court with their blue bills, cradle eggs with their blue feet, and cherish their young; they are endlessly fun and inspiring to observe. On Seymour Island, my group witnessed a very human-like interaction amongst three boobies , one female and two males.

The local Bald Eagles are getting busy, I suspect there is an egg in the nest. The Izu scincid lizards (Plestiodon latiscutatus) that inhabit the four Japanese Izu Islands with only bird predators are drab brown, mature later, lay small clutches of large eggs, and hatch large neonates. Anyway, one of the babblers of Sepilok is the Bornean Black-capped Babbler – the result of a split of the Black-capped Babbler (well, at least from a human perspective – the birds themselves are probably quite nonchalant about it). At Sepilok, it can be hard to avoid taking photos of some non-birds, such as primates.
