Steven M. Wise, J.D., former president of the Animal Legal Defense Fund and founder of the Nonhuman Rights Project (NhRP), died on February 15, 2024, at the age of 73. Wise was a trailblazer in the fight for legal rights for animals. In his book Rattling the Cage , Wise persuasively argued that justice entitles chimpanzees and bonobos to legal personhood and to the fundamental legal rights of bodily integrity and bodily liberty.

Unsure if this is the right place to ask but,Is it a common practice for shelters to deny the adoption of a fixed female cat when the homeowner has an intact female dog and a couple of fixed bunnies? We've been looking to adopt a cat from the shelter my s/o works at but they don't allow it if even one animal isn't fixed in the house. Could she get a pass from the board and adopt anyway if she were to ask?
