My family and I enjoyed the Corn Hill Festival this weekend, which is definitely one of Rochester’s better events. If I was an ornithologist aiming for a grant, I would now definitely highlight the need for more research on this topic. The Grey-Streaked Flycatcher looks only marginally more interesting, and while the Latin species name griseisticta sounds vaguely mysterious, it only means grey-spotted.

On a trip to Suriname to find and film some of these spectacular species I was blown away by the birding. Suriname has approximately 735 recorded species, with many more to still be added to its total list. The surrounding grounds are a great introduction to some common, but nonetheless interesting, species.

You don’t actually have to go too far from Broome inland to find taller trees and different bird species. We went for a wander to see what species were further upstream and accidentally flushed a Barking Owl. There are several bird species here that you won’t see in the Broome area, so it is definitely worth a look.

With an obvious hint of disapproval, the HBW remarks that for this species, the “nest [is] a small or bulky but always untidy pad” I suspect the author of these lines lives with teenage children and uses the description of the magpie-robin to vent some frustration with them. The first two questions were never definitely answered.
