Zebra Doves are raised for singing contests in countries including Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand, and may cost between 1000 and 50,000 USD depending on their singing qualities ( source ). Apparently, some Zebra Doves can be quite valuable, though presumably not the ones I saw.

Spoon-billed Sandpiper Baby Boom … in Great Britain?

As a backup plan, researchers captured some Spoonies in Siberia in 2011 and brought them to England , where they’ve been raised at the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) in Slimbridge, Gloucestershire. Bonus birding content: On June 9th, Google celebrated the birthday of birding legend Phoebe Snetsinger with a heart-rending Doodle !

The only harassment came from the resident Red-tailed Squirrel family – which seemed to be more curiosity than anything else, as their nest was just about two feet away.

Little Curlew on Cable Beach

I had the beach to myself as is often the case and raised my binoculars to observe a lone Little Curlew at the back of the flock of shorebirds. I was quite content observing the shorebirds after high tide. Having checked the various ovals I was back down on Cable Beach having one of our regular walks.

The Amusing Case of the Gulf Breeze Zoo Canada Geese

The first time I visited the 30 acre enclosure, I walked the raised boardwalk over the space with eyes wide. Multiple varieties of ungulates jogged from place to place, while giant rhea birds stalked around looking for food. Just beyond a fence, a pair of rhino adults and one baby munched contentedly on hay.
