Back to Spain

10,000 Birds

After travelling to the Middle East, our work required us to spend one more week in Algeciras, Spain. Our friends/hosts, you see, live in an unattached house (a rarity in Spain, where most people live in apartments); and that house is only a few minutes’ walk from the delta of the Palmones River.

The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain

10,000 Birds

When I drove to Xábia at the end of April to visit my brother at his new house the rain was pretty much everywhere in Spain. No rain in Spain

10,000 Birds

My aunt Greet gave me a book in 1975 that featured the 60 most endangered birds in Europe. Amazingly and quite contrary to what you would believe from the gloomy news most of these birds have since recovered and are doing well. Southern Spain has been suffering from a long-term drought for a few years already.

Best Birds of my First Year with 10,000 Birds

10,000 Birds

When it comes to one’s most exciting bird sightings, of course, it all comes down to context. I wouldn’t change my central Mexican endemics for any other region’s birds. So my favorites for 2019 includes a good number of birds that are rather common elsewhere, but were firsts for me. I mean, come on!
