Many, many things happened in the area of bird science this year, so this review can not be comprehensive. 03–19 Interesting research on microevolution in swallows was reported , suggesting that swallows in one area may be adapting to problems unique to living near, and hanging out on the surface of, a highway. So, look for that.

This encyclopedic identification guide covered 43 species in 608 pages, and was illustrated with both Hans Larsson’s exceptional artwork and color photographs by multiple photographers. Interestingly for me, the research paper calls throwing out the eggs infanticide, which makes me feel a bit queasy as this might potentially be on the wrong side of the Roe vs. Wade (or “Right vs. Wrong”, as The Onion calls it) debate. But it is all for science, I hear them say.
