Today's New York Times gives us Adam Shriver's Op-Ed " Not Grass-Fed, But at Least Pain-Free ," which presents its dilemma at the end: If we cannot avoid factory farms altogether, the least we can do is eliminate the unpleasantness of pain in the animals that must live and die on them. Like when they're about to be, say, slaughtered?

How many people know this about the Animal Welfare Act? No wonder there is so much "farm" animal abuse out there. Humane treatment runs counter to the entire industry when the point is to make money by processing these animals as fast as possible. Most animals in the U.S. This is really interesting. I notice that if I use "animal rights activist" or anything with the word "rights" in it, because it's loaded and misunderstood, my listener often has an immediate bias of some kind.
