The independence-minded region of Catalonia on Wednesday became the first on the Spanish mainland to outlaw bullfighting, a move some say is as much about nationalist politics as animal rights. hope it withstands any challenges. This is really big news. The ban will take effect in the region, of which Barcelona is the capital, in 2012.

I've googled this and can't find a single critique of the book that mentions that he is making a joke out of animal cruelty. Tags: animal cruelty books Has anyone ever read Richard Russo's book "Straight Man?" He uses geese killing at a fictional university as a comedic subplot. It's not funny at all.

Thoroughbred Dealer Convicted of Animal Cruelty
judge convicted Paragallo of 33 of 34 misdemeanor animal cruelty counts in a nonjury trial in Greene County. The 52-year-old Long Island resident was charged after state police and animal welfare investigators raided his farm in Coxsackie in April and seized 177 malnourished horses.
