Operation Nix-the-Petting-Zoo
It's not like these people care about animals. Their kids are probably gonna be petting the animals they're eating and they might not even know it." Here 's a factsheet about petting zoos, which at least in Florida have been a public health threat , to say nothing of the exploitation and suffering of the animals.)

Six members of Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty were convicted at a 2006 trial in New Jersey of conspiracy to violate the 1992 Animal Enterprise Protection Act. On Trial: Animal Torture Videos vs. Free Speech
Code, Title 18.48, made it a federal crime to knowingly create, sell, or possess a depiction of animal cruelty with the intention of placing that depiction in interstate or foreign commerce for commercial gain. It was enacted to prevent helpless innocent animals from being tortured to death. Today, the U.S. Stevens.

Egypt Kills Thousands of Pigs for No Reason
The pig you see here being dangled by the leg is still just a baby, and by now he is already dead and thrown away for absolutely no reason, as are the rest of the 300,000 pigs in Egypt. How typical that we humans blame this epidemic on pigs, and kill them without a second thought! Source: NY Times online. Does this make sense?

Pork Industry Moving into Defensive Mode
The Pork Board has planned delegate meetings at the {annual Pork Industry} forum to discuss quality assurance rules including animal handling, and how much money to allocate to promote animal welfare. The pork industry does not make money from happy pigs, but from dead carcasses. Uh huh.

Are We Much Better than Michael Vick?
Is what he did consciously to his pitbulls that much worse than what we do unconsciously to animals every day? Some of us forget that dogs are mere animals, and that animal mistreatment is as American as Apple iPods. Like Vick, most of us shamelessly abuse and kill animals. It's true. None of us is pure.

Getting Emotional
Sometimes being an animal rights advocate is emotionally exhausting. Last night I was watching Animal Planet, as I often do, and the show was about polar bears in the wild. Yes, I cried at the cruelty of nature. Chickens, turkeys, pigs and other farmed animals get nothing of the sort. Today is one of those days.

A Victory for Turkeys
All too often even the most egregious cases of animal abuse go without any substantial punishment. This seems even more true when the victim is a “food animal. Around Thanksgiving last year, People for the Ethical Treatement of Animals (PETA) released undercover video footage of Aviagen Turkeys Inc.

Let’s Catch Up!
Alec Baldwin wrote a great piece for the Huffington Post about the vilification of Michael Vick, and how in a lot of ways it’s hypocritical of a lot of people – specifically, if you are a meat eater, a leather-wearer, and an animal user. Are dogs any more special than pigs, cows, turkeys? It is devastating.
