A Pied Oystercatcher family

In 2010 they also laid two clutches of two eggs and the second clutch did hatch, but the chicks were then predated. Here are some of the experiences of the Pied Oystercatcher chick on Cable Beach in the last 4 weeks. The eggs remained there for the whole season and we presume that they were young and inexperienced.

Great July Birding in Queens

July in New York City is generally an unpleasant experience. It was inaccessible from where I was so I hoofed it back to my car, drove down to the main parking lot and made great haste to the south end of the East Pond where I saw my second Black-bellied Whistling Duck for Queens, and the first since 2010! What a bird for Queens!
