Backyard animals

So we just had a baby owl sadly die in our backyard. It was in a hole in our oaktree that we think a woodpecker made weeks ago. We just noticed the owl in it yesterday.

Weve been seeing a giant crow getting close to it all day today and many other birds have been fighting it off.

We had a fledging that fell out of its nest and unfortunately got eaten by a black garden snake in our backyard last year.

And that same year, we had a momma squirrel die and we found her two babies a couple of days later and we were able to rescue one of them by bringing it to a wildlife center.

Im honored that all these animals choose our backyard to live but im very sad that so many of them dont make it. Is there anything I can do to protect these babies from predators when I spot them next time. Its hard because I know im not supposed to touch them.

Everything has to eat, it sometimes can be sad, but that’s just the way it is and always has been

It's a very hard reality when you are a nature lover.

I'm an avid birdwatcher, I feed my neighborhood birdies and they always bring me thier new families in the springtime.

You sadly watch the families shrink, as most bird species have about a 50% rate for fledgling survival. It's hard to watch. Last year one of my crows got sick, I called wildlife and they were going to come and grab him to see if he could be rehabilitated but they were sadly too late. The poor bug passed infront of me and his parents were so upset. I was actually morose. Took me a good month to stop seeing in my damn sleep.

Help thier chances of survival if possible, put out food that you've looked into being healthy for them, keep any kitties on my inside or contained outside if you have them, keep water around ect. It gives them a good start 😊
