Should I have pets in future?

I want to work in Aquarium and Tropicarium mini zoo in Serbia(to help animals there and if they arent treated well to see of I can make a diffrence. Also to show good sides of them to people that fear such animals like reptiles/arachnids and such).

But if my job will be to be around animals...will be haveing a pet be overkill?

Or would it be good later proof of experience I gotten from my job?

Because I am 18 love all animals(even parasites)and I am close to ending my High School hell.

Congratulations on almost being out of high school. I think pets enrich our lives. I hope youre able to go to Siberia and thats great what you want to do. Having a pet wouldn't be over kill. It would be great if you had a pet. There are so many to choose from. My favoorite pet is a domesticated rat. I would wait a bit to see when your going to Siberia and see whats involved with taking your pets over there. I know Alaska has a ban on domesticated rats. Several states ban gerbils as pets. Good luck with your future after you get out of high school hell.

I am 25 and I first started getting my own pets at 18. I would strongly advise you to wait a couple years at least. It severely limits your ability to travel, as well as find housing if you are planning on moving. Furthermore, not sure if you live in Serbia or plan on moving there, but moving to another country with a pet is also an even bigger challenge, and is very stressful on the animal (also, depending on the pet, what is legal to own in one place might not be legal elsewhere. For example, hedgehogs are illegal to own in California).

I am guessing you will going to school to have the qualifications to work with animals. You need to definitely figure all of that out first before having a pet. Some universities require all first year students to live on campus. And even not, you would likely struggle to find other housing near a college/university that allows pets (this is normally just limits on cats and dogs though).

When you have your job when you are older, I think it would be a great thing for you to have a pet. But please wait. I love my pets and would never get rid of them, but I wish I would have waited so I could have had more opportunities to travel. Of course, hiring a pet sitter is a thing, but I've had bad experiences with them where they weren't checking on my cats as often as they were supposed to. And I would definitely NEVER trust a pet sitter with anything other than a cat or dog. The average person simply is not educated enough to even know how to not overfeed fish, lizards, etc.

I see I guess 25 then.I told another commenter that I live in Serbia but thats ok.What why?

Cant I just by working in zoo get such qualification?I dont wana go to college yet.It would be too much of a pain for someone like me who isnt ready.

I would like to have my job after I end my High School.I see why dont you just offer them more pay for more work?A little motivational money should change there mind?Or intsall cameras and take half there pay if they disobey you?

I'm 53, had a 35 year career in veterinary medicine and as soon as I got back from 10 years working overseas, I rescued my 2 ponies, horse and 2 dogs. I dedicated my life to animals and home is just a house without them. I never wanted marriage or kids , was always animals to me. Just depends on how dedicated to animals you want to be.
