What do I do with this stray cat

About a week ago, a stray cat came to our door..We gave it food and pampered it. From then it hasn't been leaving our house, meowing if we keep it outside and we feel very bad. So most of the afternoon-evenings it stays in our house and then leaves at night.Usually doesn't make a lot of mess but today it came up (1st floor) and peed and poooped on my bed.. when I woke up the poop was smeared on my hand..it smelled.. We cannot adopt a cat right now because we are not in the position to. But if we let it go it feels like we already have it so much hope and now letting it go for our own selfishness we are also form a bond with it. This is what stopped me...What do I do?

(Also suspect that the cat is pregnant, not confirmed, no vet visits, very friendly for a stray cat, trusts us)

It seems the cat trusts you enough to the point where you could get them in a carrier or some other transportation device. If you manage that, perhaps take them to a local shelter. Even some veterinary practices will take them in and help home them. Just do a little research into the ones near you before taking them.

Animal control is dicey, as they will take them to a public shelter, which regrettably are typically more budget strapped than private shelters, and consequently have less strong odds of giving the animal a home.

Good luck!
