This may seem like government agency hair-splitting, but the calls needed to be made not to the wildlife division of the wildlife agency, but to the exotic species division of the wildlife agency.

One wouldn’t tether a rabbit out to get a shot of a fox or a coyote, or is that somehow different? I think the main thing for me, leaving aside the debate on invasive species and the birds welfare, is that it just feels like cheating. At least a chicken would last awhile as a feeder.

The island’s largest salt lake, Akrotiri, is not a great draw for waders, but the range of large, shallow saline pools on its east side, along Lady’s Mile, were in perfect condition to attract a wide variety of species. Additional species seen included a pair of Whimbrels which didn’t linger, Little Ringed Plovers and Greenshanks.
