Here we should see the flightless Lyall’s Wren , once called Stephen’s Island Wrens (after the island they were first described from), as they scurry around the forest floor like mice! The sheltered bays of the Coromandel are home to another endemic, the Southern Merganser. It certainly has no known relatives.
