Barn Swallows are a bit unhappy with their image as restless aerial hunters and would like to gain a more stately and dignified profile. In Singapore, a Tiger Shrike was observed casting a pellet after eating a large scarab beetle. The rather drab-looking female can only look colorful by grabbing some colorful insects.

Considering the bird survived a season in an area saturated with hunters and birds of prey, this facemelting rarity deserves our respect. The Singapore island of Pulau Ubin is a reliable location for Red Junglefowl, the roosters of which are dashingly handsome but unexpectedly wary… I guess that’s how they stay wild!

Of the female, the website Birds of Singapore says that it “resembles male but has greyish-brown upperparts”, which is a strange way of stating that its color is completely different. nechaevi is not shorter than the 6th primary feather. Unfortunately, my photo does not illustrate this at all.
