Picathartes – Africa’s strangest birds

White-necked or Yellow-headed Picathartes, Bonkro, Ghana. They diverged at approximately the same time as the rockjumpers (two quite unique bird species endemic to Southern Africa and now in their own family), and as a result for a while were even placed in the same family. A Gray-necked Picathartes nesting colony in Cameroon.

The Pittas of Sepilok

Well – I only saw two species, the most common ones at Sepilok, Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia. The British then posthumously named a fort after him (Ussher Fort in Ghana) – not a great consolidation when you are already dead, but then, not many things are. Not that they need many words anyway. As it does not look shabby at all.
