BOCA to Stop Using Eggs by End of 2009

On March 19, 2009 a company representative emailed Compassion Over Killing: "…I am pleased to let you know the BOCA brand will be eliminating eggs in all of its products by the end of this year. We anticipate all BOCA products will be egg free in 2010." They are striking a blow against the cruel egg industry.

Shearwater Success: Seabirds Return to Rat-Free Islands

As a bonus, another seabird has returned to the officially rat-free islands: the European Storm-Petrel. None had been seen in St. Agnes or Gugh for generations.

The species was in the news because some scientists had finally managed (or bothered – it’s much the same thing) to locate the population high in the mountains of the Solomon Islands, and catch and photograph one. Box after box of egg. The large room the collection was held in was a profoundly weird place.

The meat industry will say yes, of course, all animals are treated and killed humanely. The eventual kill is quick, clean, and painless. It's a thoughtful question I wish more people would ask.
